Real-world scenario
An e-commerce site cannot afford downtime during a sale, and its product pages hammer the database with reads. Multi-AZ gives automatic failover; read replicas absorb the read traffic so checkout stays fast.
By the end you can:
Follow the request/data flow through the architecture.
Work through each concept and mark it understood. This unlocks the knowledge check.
Managed relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, etc.).
Why it matters
Offloads patching, backups and replication so you focus on schema and queries.
When to use it
Use for relational/transactional workloads. Use DynamoDB for high-scale key-value, Aurora for cloud-native scale.
Gotcha (exam trap)
Multi-AZ is for availability (synchronous standby, no read scaling); read replicas are for read scaling (asynchronous). Mixing them up is a classic exam miss.
Finish the walkthrough above to unlock the check.
