Carbon credits, net-zero infra, ESG pipelines & farming
ESG stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance.
A carbon credit = permission to emit 1 tonne of CO2-equivalent.
Net-Zero is not the same as Carbon Neutral.
Architecture: farm IoT sensors → S3 raw zone → Glue ETL → Athena query → QuickSight dashboard.
Carbon credits need immutable, auditable records. Two AWS options: (1) DynamoDB with strict versioning, or (2) Amazon QLDB — a managed ledger DB with a cryptographically verifiable journal.
Many enterprises report ESG on Microsoft. Architecture: SAP/ERP export → Azure Data Factory → Synapse → Power BI.
GCP exposes emissions via the Carbon Footprint API. Manage 50 GCP projects for a multinational: pull carbon data per project → BigQuery → Looker Studio, then extend with Scope 3 supplier data.
End-to-end architecture for smallholder farmers:
NDVI measures plant health from satellite imagery — high NDVI means healthy vegetation and more carbon sequestered.
A solar + wind operator needs real-time monitoring. Power sensors → Kinesis Data Streams → Lambda aggregates into 5-min windows → Timestream → Managed Grafana dashboards, with EventBridge alarms on SLA breaches. Bonus: compute CO2-equivalent avoided per kWh and feed the carbon pipeline.
EV charging backends need low-latency global availability. OCPP chargers → API Gateway → Lambda → DynamoDB Global Tables for multi-region session state, with Global Accelerator routing, CloudWatch charger health, and weekly carbon-avoided reports via Athena.
Build a complete carbon-credit marketplace. Actors: smallholder farmers (IoT → credit candidates), verifiers (NDVI + soil APIs), corporate buyers (web app), and an immutable QLDB registry.
